Mission Trip to
Mississippi Gulf Coast
June 9-16, 2007

the mission team while they are in Gulfport.
Mission Trip Details
Hopefully you have
heard by now that we have a mission trip scheduled for 2007! After
spending a week on the Gulf Coast this past July, it was evident
that there will be an ongoing need for hard-working volunteers to
serve families that were affected by the 2005 hurricanes. We had
hoped to return to the area during spring break to catch some cooler
weather. Unfortunately, spring break coincides with Easter week this
year, so that wasn’t an option. Instead we have chosen the week of
June 9-16, 2007 for next year’s trip. We will travel down to
Mississippi on Saturday, June 9th, arriving late that evening.
Sunday will be used to tour the area, visit the 2006 work sites,
rest and prepare for the week of work.
In 2006 – after making some last-minute adjustments – we worked out
of “Hope City” and stayed at “The Village” in Pass Christian. Hope
City is volunteer base camp in Gulfport, Mississippi. It is operated
by Hope Crisis Response Network (HCRN) in Elkhart,
Indiana (see www.hcrn.info to
learn more). We had a great experience working with them and I’m
excited to report that we will be staying and working at Hope City
in 2007!
“Hope City” is HCRN’s fleet of mobile disaster response trailers
that can be deployed to disaster sites to provide housing, meals,
and other amenities for volunteer workers. A 32’ kitchen and laundry
unit provides meals for the volunteers. A 36’ bathroom facility
includes separate shower and toilet facilities for men and women.
There are two 50’ bunkhouse trailers, each containing sleeping
quarters for up to 20 people and another bathroom facility. They
also have a double wide trailer on the property which serves as a
dining hall/living room and houses the Hope City staff offices. HCRN
has made a commitment to operate “Hope City” on the gulf coast for
at least three years. In the future the mobile camp will be deployed
in response to other crisis and disaster situations locally and
around the country.
